The average bathroom tap provides about 1 gallon of water per minute. This means that, if you leave the water running just for the length of time it takes you to brush your teeth, you are wasting about 7,000 gallons per year (the average swimming pool holds 25000 gallons of water, so this is almost 1/3 of a swimming pool’s worth of water). A leaky faucet, shower or toilet can waste 50 gallons of water in just one day. Moreover, if that faucet is a hot water tap, then the environmental costs go up too, since energy is being wasted to heat that hot water that’s just running down the drain for no reason
