10. Carry a mug with you wherever you go for take out beverages.

A person who buys one cup of coffee (or other beverage) in a disposable cup each day throws away about 23 pounds of cups every year.  Americans throw away over 25,000,000,000 (that’s 25 BILLION) Styrofoam cups alone every year and, as Styrofoam cups degrade incredibly slowly, most of those cups will still be in a landfill 500 years from now.  And paper cups aren’t much better!  in 2006, about 252 MILLION pounds of paper cups were thrown in the garbage and taken to landfills.  To make these cups took 4 billion gallons of water and 6.5 million trees.

So grab a travel mug and take it wherever you go so you don't need to use the disposable ones.  Most restaurants are happy for you to fill your own mug rather than using one of theirs.
