2.  Avoid sitting in you car with the engine idling between classes

Car idlingA car's engine idling for one hour consumes about ¼ of a gallon of fuel and produces over 1.5lbs of carbon dioxide.  Idling your car’s engine is bad for your car too, because an idle engine runs relatively cold and so it doesn’t burn the fuel as effectively as it does when your car is moving. This can result in residues that build up in your engine, clogging your spark plugs and contaminating your car’s oil.  This in turn reduces your car’s fuel efficiency when you are driving.  Moreover, idling can result in the production of water condensation which can make your muffler rust more quickly than it would if you only used your car to take you places.  Bring your i-pod to the library, or find another spot to study and you can make use of the heating and cooling already being provided by the university and save yourself some money as well as helping the environment.
