Avoid using bottled water
While recycling helps, avoiding using the product at all is even better. It has been estimated that it tool more than 17 million barrels of oil to produce the bottled water sold in the USA in 2006. This resulted in the release of more than 2.5 million tons of Carbon dioxide and that was before the energy costs of transporting that water to the store and on to your home and then to take the empty bottle to the landfill. By contrast the environmental cost of the water in the tap is MUCH lower. So turf the bottle, get an insulated mug and drink tap water. It’s cheaper and better for the environment… and it may even be better for you too! http://www.sierraclub.org/committees/cac/water/bottled_water/bottled_water.pdf |
